The Basics of Data Literacy
Tally marks are a fast, simple way to count objects while recording. They are grouped in sets of five (four vertical lines crossed by one diagonal line), making quick counting easier.

A pictograph uses pictures or symbols to represent data. The most important part is the **Key (Legend)**, which tells you what value each picture stands for (e.g., one apple icon = 5 apples).
Interpreting a chart means answering questions about the data, such as: "Which item is the most popular?", "How many more does one item have than another?", or "What is the total count of all items?".
