Select a pattern type and click "Generate Pattern"
Observation:
Patterns are everywhere in mathematics! Look for the rule that connects the numbers or shapes in the sequence.
Learning About Patterns and Logical Thinking
Numerical Patterns:
Numerical patterns follow specific rules. Here are some common types:
| Pattern Type | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Arithmetic | Add or subtract the same number each time | 2, 4, 6, 8, ... (+2 each time) |
| Geometric | Multiply or divide by the same number each time | 3, 6, 12, 24, ... (×2 each time) |
| Square Numbers | Numbers multiplied by themselves | 1, 4, 9, 16, ... (1², 2², 3², 4²) |
| Fibonacci | Each number is the sum of the two before it | 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, ... |
Geometrical Patterns:
Shapes can also form patterns. Look for changes in:
- Size - shapes getting larger or smaller
- Color - colors changing in a sequence
- Rotation - shapes turning at regular angles
- Position - shapes moving in a pattern
- Type - different shapes following a sequence
Logical Thinking:
Logical thinking helps us solve problems by:
- Identifying relationships between elements
- Making predictions based on patterns
- Testing our predictions
- Adjusting our thinking when needed
